Eric Layton
Certified Splitboard GuideEric Layton brings passion, creativity, and pure stoke to every turn in the backcountry. With over 30 years of snowboarding under his feet, his love for the mountains and the art of sliding sideways is absolutely infectious.
Guiding professionally since 2007, Eric has accumulated more than 20 years of heli-skiing experience and 15 years of alpine guiding. He has worked with some of the most respected operations in the industry, including Eagle Pass Heli Skiing, Baldface Lodge, 40 Tribes Backcountry, Shasta Mountain Guides and now serves as the Lead Guide for Third Edge Heli. After years of guiding human-powered adventures across North America, Eric has found deep fulfillment focusing on heli-guiding—where efficiency, safety, and flow meet the ultimate mountain experience. Having guided the past 20 years in Alaska and the past decade in British Columbia, Eric’s career reflects a lifetime of commitment to snow and the mountain environment. In summer months, he continues to pursue alpine climbing, fly fishing and mountain biking across the Cascade Volcanoes and Eastern Sierra, always chasing new terrain and growth.
In 2015, Eric became the first person ever to pass the AMGA ski exam on a splitboard, earning full accreditation as an American Mountain Guides Association Certified Splitboard Guide. He is a Professional Member of the Canadian Avalanche Association, an Aspirant Alpine Guide, and holds Wilderness First Responder certification. As the owner of Layton Guiding, Eric has evolved his previous venture, Splitboard Guides International, into a hybrid platform that bridges the worlds of human-powered and mechanized guiding—merging the craft of splitboard touring with the precision and reach of heli-ski operations.
Whether carving heli lines in Alaska, Chile or Canada or linking distant summits in the Sierra, Eric’s approach embodies the full experience and delivers an exceptional product.
