Online Avalanche Level 1 Curriculum For Providers
For Professionals & Operations
Mountain Training Center allows professional operations and independent guides to purchase our Avalanche Level 1 Curriculum for each of their students. This alleviates the need to do nightly lectures and instead allows for students to work through the material at their own pace. Additionally students can go back & revisit the material if future questions arise throughout the season.
As of September 15, 2025, our REC 1 is not accredited by the American Avalanche Association (A3). We are actively pursuing accreditation but until it’s official, this is curriculum is not A3 accredited. We are hopeful that we’ll be approved before this coming winter. If you are not interested in A3 accreditation, you may utilize our product.
Feel free to contact us at will@mountaintrainingcenter.com to discuss to more.

Online learning offers a flexible and accessible approach to avalanche education, allowing students to engage with essential content at their own pace and on their own schedule. This format enables learners to revisit complex topics as needed, ensuring a thorough understanding before heading into the backcountry for their field sessions. By providing a solid theoretical foundation, online avalanche education allows participants to arrive at in-person courses better prepared, maximizing the value of in-field training.
We provide six hours of self paced lectures for students but require operations/guides/instructors to host a two hour pre-trip session that’ll cover two shorter lectures, Q&A and logistics.

An Example From Our Course
How It Works
-
Operations must first fill out the Provider Application Form. This will initiate the on-ramp process.
Once you have filled this form out, please allow for up to 48 hours for a response. You will receive an email from the MTC team with the next steps. -
Once the provider application and instructor training has been completed, operations may fill out the Avalanche Level 1 Request Form. Please only fill out one form per course. If you will be hosting nine courses for the year, submit the form nine times.
Please give ample time before your course when submitting this form. Students should be given as much time as possible to work through curriculum. It is recommended that these forms be submitted before the season begins.
When filling out the “course” portion, using the naming convention:
PROVIDER INITIALS - YYYY-MM-DD - CITY -
Following the submittal of the Provider Application, MTC will send an email with a link to your customer payment profile. Within the profile, you are required to add your operations preferred payment method. Your payment method will be charged upon completion of your in-person field days.
When filling out the Avalanche Level 1 Request Form, please list the maximum number of students that your course can host. Even if you’ve only got 16 sign ups but might have 18, fill out the form for 18. This allows for flexibility in-case more students sign up last minute.
Your operation will only be charged for the student codes actually used. If only 12 students end up signing up but you requested 16, you’ll be charged for 12. No down payment or deposit required. -
Upon completion of your in-person field days, MTC will issue a course compliance report to your operation. This will outline how many students & which ones have completed the online training. Once a student has completed the online training, your operation can issue an official certificate of completion.
